EMS Lecture Series continues....

The EMS Lecture Series continues on Wednesday, 16 May 2012 at 7pm, with a lecture provided by Dr. Michael Somers about Return of Spontaneous Circulation and Hypothermia. The lecture will be held at Co. 19 and will be from 7p-9p. CE's will be given.

Dr. Somers, St. Mary's Jurisdictional Medical Director, will be discussing the state of Sudden Cardiac Arrest care in the country today, as well as what some county jurisdictions have implemented. The new Hypothermia protocol will also be discussed, focusing on the science behind this therapy.

MedStar St. Mary's Hospital and SMALS introduce the LIFENET System for STEMI care

MedStar St. Mary's Hospital and St. Mary's Advanced Life Support Unit announced on 02 March 2012 that they have launched a new system to help improve heart attack patient outcomes. The LIFENET System, from Physio-Control, Inc., is the first web-based data network of its kind, offering emergency medical services (EMS) and hospital teams tools to work together to help improve clinical and operational efficiencies. MedStar St. Mary's and St. Mary's Advanced Life Support Unit's use of LIFENET System has the goal of reducing time to treatment, known as door-to-balloon time (D2B), for patients in ... (Full Story)

Traffic Safety Initiative

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Division, in cooperation with the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack, is conducting a Traffic Safety Initiative to address numerous traffic safety-related issues. Based on citizen complaints of speeding and aggressive driving, combined with 2011 motor vehicle collision data, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office has identified two travel areas where enforcement efforts will be concentrated.
