St. Mary's Advanced Life Support Unit proudly sent speakers and attendees to the EMS World Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.
This five-day national event convened emergency medical services professionals, educators, and leaders from across the country to advance clinical practice, leadership development, and system innovation.

QA Officer P. Koch presented on the Dangers of Sleep Deprivation in EMS and QA Officer K. Koch's presentation addressed the EMS Response to Patients with Mental Health Needs. Both presentations were well attended! QA Officer K. Koch has been an annual Speaker for EMS World.

Also representing the St. Mary's ALS Unit were Assistant Chief J. Cawley and Captain/Training Officer M. Lowmiller. Throughout the conference, Assistant Chief Cawley and Captain Lowmiller participated in an extensive series of educational sessions focused on mental health and wellness in EMS, critical incident stress management, educational methodology and training advancement, leadership and management in high-performance systems, documentation and quality assurance practices, and advanced cardiac interpretation, including 15-lead and posterior electrocardiogram (EKG) analysis.

Both officers also took part in the EMS Clinical Challenge, a nationally recognized competition that evaluates clinical knowledge, decision-making, and teamwork under realistic, high-acuity conditions.

In addition, all who attended EMS World explored the expansive Exhibit Hall, which featured the latest innovations in EMS technology, medical equipment, and patient care solutions. Exposure to cutting-edge tools and resources will help identify new opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, improve clinical readiness, and improve patient outcomes within St. Mary’s County.

Their participation in this event reflects St. Mary’s County Advanced Life Support’s continued commitment to professional development, clinical excellence, and the integration of evidence-based practices. The insights and advancements gained from the conference will directly contribute to the organization’s training programs, quality assurance initiatives, and patient care improvement efforts across the system.
